Frequently Asked Questions

  • Contrary to popular belief, there is a significant difference between dietitians and nutritionists. Dietitians must complete an accredited study program, pass a national registration exam, and receive a license to practice. They are also required to participate in ongoing education programs to maintain their credentials.

Nutritionists, on the other hand, are not required to have any specific education or training, and their services are not regulated in any way. In addition, nutritionists are typically unable to work with health insurance companies.

It's important to note that dietitians undergo more extensive training and adhere to higher standards of practice than nutritionists. So if you're looking for professional guidance on your nutritional needs, it's important to seek out the expertise of a registered dietitian.

  • Intuitive eating is a holistic wellness approach that liberates you from the constraints of traditional dieting, fosters a healthy relationship with food, and reconnects you with your intuitive eating instincts. Unlike diets, intuitive eating does not follow rigid rules or promote deprivation.

Rather, it encourages you to trust your internal cues and honor your body's needs and desires. But intuitive eating is more than simply responding to hunger and fullness signals - it involves examining your food beliefs, behaviors, and self-talk to uncover any negative patterns or emotional associations with food. By exploring your relationship with food, you can cultivate a healthier, more balanced approach to eating that supports your overall wellbeing.

  • We are fully committed to helping our clients achieve their health and wellness goals. We recognize that true, lasting change takes time and effort, and cannot be achieved overnight. For this reason, we require our clients to make a minimum commitment to their health and wellness journey, so that they are fully prepared to invest in themselves for the long term.

We believe that this mindset is critical to achieving sustainable results. Although our minimum commitment is 1 initial session + 3 follow-up sessions, many of our clients continue to work with us for extended periods of time and experience tremendous success. We are dedicated to supporting our clients every step of the way on their journey towards optimal health and wellness.

If you have any questions about our services we encourage you to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation by clicking here.

  • If you are using your health insurance to pay for services they will be billed for at time of service and will not expire.

If you have purchased a session package, you will have 6 months from the date of purchase to use all of your sessions. After 6 months any unused sessions will expire and you will have to purchase a new package.

  • We accept BlueCross BlueShield, Medicare, and United Healthcare. Please keep in mind each policy will have different coverage limits.

We recommend calling your insurance company to ask about your specific coverage. They can inform you of whether you will receive any reimbursement for our services, or whether the cost can be applied towards any deductible. We have included the instructions on how to do this below.

We can provide a superbill for all other insurance companies for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement purposes.

  • You can download our guide here.

Step 1: Call your insurance customer service line.

The phone number for customer service is generally located on the back of your insurance card — ask to speak to the benefits department.

Step 2: Ask does your plan cover medical nutrition therapy (MNT) / nutrition counseling? (CPT codes: 97802 and 97803)

If yes, how many sessions are allowed per calendar year?

Does your plan cover preventative services or only "medically necessary" visits?

Does your plan cover Telehealth services?

Step 3: Ask if you have to meet a deductible before sessions are covered?

If yes, how much is your deductible?

How much of your deductible have you already met?

Step 4: Ask if you have a copay for MNT / nutrition counseling services?

If yes, how much is it per session?

Step 5: Ask if you need a referral or pre-authorization before starting sessions.

If yes, you will need to call your doctor’s office and ask for a referral. They will likely need the the RD’s NPI number.

    Best Practice:

Be sure to document everything and if possible ask for a transcript or email confirmation of the conversation.

Write down the date, a reference number, who you spoke with, and the items outlined above from the call.

  • All clients have the right to request a "Good Faith Estimate" per the No Surprise Act. If you would like an estimate of your self pay services or out-of-network costs, you may request this from your dietitian. Please note that this is an estimate of services and may be an under or over-estimate of the total costs. This estimate is to ensure that you are not receiving any surprise costs.
